Hi. Welcome to Books on the Line review blog.

What?….About the railways of South East Wales

Here you will find reviews of books written about the fascinating historical railways of South East Wales.

Although the railways of the area have been the subject of a number of books over recent decades, the acknowledgment of their historical importance has grown rapidly in recent times. Two books were published on the tramroads and railways of the Sirhowy Valley in the second half of 2020 alone!

Why…..this review blog?

The purpose of this blog is to review these books and provide a place for additional information and commentary associated with the literature. As such I hope it will provide a public and easily accessible focus for this subject.

My interest in the subject is personal! Though now a railway enthusiast (both model and 1:1) living in the English Midlands, I am a native of Tredegar. Moreover, I worked in Newport for some years and travelled down the valley every day by car, (having sadly lost the railway many years earlier!).

And Finally…..

I hope you will find something of interest and value in this review blog. Each review will provide you with a choice; a text review or a slightly more in-depth audio review. Text reviews will only take a minute or two to read while audio reviews are slightly longer, between 4 and 5 minutes.

A new review will be published every second Friday. If you wish to be notified when a new review is published please use the subscribe option.

I am always open to comments and suggestions and happy to accept appropriate books for review!
